Why are people so obsessed with making 9mm act like .45?

I see all this nonsense about how 9mm is superior when loaded with certain rounds and how Lehigh and Underwood are magic. If you want a round that acts like .45acp, just buy .45acp, or .40SW, or 10mm. They are all clearly superior in their area of performance to 9mm.
