Police officers should be held to a higher standard and should be held accountable for abuses of power and criminal behavior. It isn't the same as being held solely responsible for the actions of others.

Just want to say first that not all police officers are corrupt, and not all police officers abuse their power.

That being said, the majority of "good cops" always seem to stay silent, and do not turn in "bad cops", and they also do not speak out against abuses of power and criminal behavior. Furthermore, as a member of the law enforcement community, they should be held to a higher standard since they are representatives of the state with jobs that come with immense responsibility. The current lack of accountability of police officers is giving the entire industry a bad name, and it needs to be addressed.

I solely place blame on the individual cop that commits a crime or abuses power, not the entire police force. However, just because a few "good cops" do speak out occasionally, does not absolve the entire police force of the actions of a corrupt cop. The police force as a whole needs to take responsibility for letting these actions go unaddressed for so long, and solely blaming the individual cop is not enough to fix the issue.
