I just had nothing left to say after the police officer at the desk laughed at me for asking if I had any options for my ex-husbands obsessed girlfriend.

I went down to the local police station today, because I was confused as to what I could do about the situation. The ex-husband was already pressing charges for harassment, and I was just seeking additional advice on how to protect myself from the girlfriend and any future harassment. The officer at the desk said “I just don’t want you to be disappointed, but there’s not much that can be done unless she has directly threatened you.” He just said nothing can be done if the harasser is a woman, and then just laughed.

Then he asked if I wanted to be taken to a halfway house. I did not and I said so, but he insisted that I go. He told me I had nothing to lose and that it’s free. He laughed again and said “it’s better than sleeping on the street.” I am currently at the halfway house, and it felt really weird. It just felt like one more thing they do to invalidate the experiences of women.

Edit: I apologize if my post didn’t live up to your expectations. I wanted to share my experience. I think it’s valid. I will continue to be vocal and to speak about my experiences. I’m done arguing with you. It’s not necessary.
