The most annoying thing about the internet is that everyone assumes you are from the US or know everything about the US all the time.

As a European, I don't really understand why the internet is so American-centric. It seems to me that people from all over the world use the internet, but it looks like the internet is run by Americans that have no idea that there's world outside of the US.

I often use phrases like "mainland Europe" to mean any European country that is not the UK or Italy. I don't know why I even need to explain that, but people from the UK or Italy get mad when they think they are left out.

At work, we are using Google Calendar. It's great, but why the fuck do I have to see "Easter Holidays" marked, but not "Summer Holidays"? That's in Australia, not Florida, you guys. Come on.

For my birthday, my colleague gave me a "country-specific" mug that says "Crazy Dutch Person" on it. I am not Dutch, but European. It's like they think that the whole world is run by the US and all the people speak English and are Americans that just happen to live in random countries.

I work as a customer service representative for a US-based company. I am the only non-US citizen in my department. They often talk about "close calls" on the road. They say things like "I had a close call on the road, but thank God no one was affected," like that's what they do: drive on the God's team instead of the rest of the humans.

I am not saying all Americans are annoying. I have never been to the US, but from what I see on the internet and in shows like South Park, I am ready to go there. No, seriously, I am going to the US in August. But the internet looks like a kids' playground run by 10-year-old Americans.

OK, sorry for ranting. I hope you guys from other countries understand me.
