It's super out of line to be surprised by someone's occupation up close

I remember this video where a woman had an epiphany of "a stripper is just like a ballet dancer... except naked". I don't know how she was in her 20s and thought that. Yeah, they both dance. One of them doesn't get paid enough for the hours they work and is shamed by society and laughed at when someone tries to get paid. Was she that out of touch that she thought she was just dancing pretty?

A friend of mine went to a job fair in college and said "I'm not interested in any sex/health related jobs, or strip dancing or striper thing, or telemarketing, or any job that involves picking up poop." I asked her for job fair leads and gave her two business cards in different industries my friend was interested in. I asked her that day how it was going and she said "Well, I went to an interview yesterday and it looks like I'm going to get the job on Thursday." I asked what the company did. She said "You won't guess it". I said "Hmm, well, you're not going to be a thief, that's for sure." She laughed and said "I'm going to be a lab tech at a urology clinic." I asked "Oh, you realize that means you'll be picking up poop, right?" She said "Oh is that what they do? I only shadowed with them for ten minutes but I liked it." I asked her if she'd be willing to grab a beer and I could explain what she'd be doing there if she hadn't already figured it out. She said "No. I'll just Google it." This is college grad brain right there. The reason you Google something after a job interview is to research the company and see what other job openings they might have. You don't Google what you do to see if it's something you want to do.

Seriously though, your occupation is none of my business. I shouldn't be able to look at someone and figure out exactly what they do for a living. It's 2023. Design something better than a patch on a uniform that society of free people can agree on. Or, you know, not design something and just not be surprised by what any person does for a living.
