A few days ago, my roommate went to a party. She had a good time until she heard a commotion outside. She went to see what was going on, and a woman had fallen off the balcony and died. My roommate helped comfort the host during this time.

The host was extremely grateful for my roommate's help during this time, and told her to take anything she wanted from his house as a gift. My roommate ended up taking my coat.

I had received the coat from my grandmother who passed away last year. Before she passed away, she gave me the coat to remember her by. I never spent a single day with my grandmother where she didn't have the coat on. It's basically the only thing that I have left from her.

When my roommate came home with "her new coat", I was shocked. I asked her where she got it from, and she told me that she got it from the party. I asked her if she knew that it was my coat, and she said yes. She said she knew it was my coat, but since she was given permission to take it, she didn't think it would be a problem.

I told her that she has to give it back. She said no, so I took it and washed it. When she saw that I washed it, she freaked out. She said since I didn't ask her permission to touch it, I was in the wrong. I said fuck that shit and I'm taking back my dead grandmother's coat. She thinks I'm an asshole for not letting her have it.

AITA?
