My fiancée(26F) and I have been together for 5 years and got engaged recently, and were planning to start our lives together as husband and wife.<br><br>When he came down with COVID, it was bad. He had a fever for weeks and wouldn’t get out of bed, and even when he went to the doctor he couldn’t walk and had to have me hold him up to get to the car, and we had to stop every few feet so he could double over and catch his breath. After a month, the doctors said he had long Covid and just told us to wait it out. <br><br>But in the last three months he just gained all this weight all over his torso. He went from 170lbs to 270lbs. He can’t walk without his walker, and when he stands up, he has to hold onto something or he’ll fall over. He’s in so much pain and has been groaning nonstop, and his breathing is so labored that we have to give him an oxygen tank everywhere he goes. We went to the hospital last night because he was coughing up blood and the doctors still won’t tell us what’s going on with his body, they just keep giving us the same vague bullshit about how they’re doing all these tests and are talking to other hospitals to help him.<br><br>He went from an athletic, handsome, healthy man to an invalid with extreme shortness of breath and chronic pain who cannot take care of himself. He used to be my strong, protective husband, who held me when I was afraid of thunderstorms, who lifted me up when I fell, who carried me through every hard time in my life. In a couple months my strong man went from being able to do all these things for me to being unable to do anything for himself. <br><br>This is a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. We were planning to have our wedding this fall and he was going to fly out to China to adopt our dog, but now I don’t think either of those will happen at this point. <br><br>My poor husband is suffering so much and the doctors are giving us no hope and barely any information. He’s suffering just to breathe, and I can’t even look at him without crying because of how much pain he’s in. I just want my strong, healthy husband back, but nobody seems to care enough to help us.<br><br>Update: They finally told us today that he has a rare, inoperable congenital defect in the sac surrounding his heart. The infection caused by COVID made fluid accumulate in his heart and caused it to explode to the point where it’s putting so much pressure on his organs, including his lungs, that he can’t breathe. They said the internal damage is irreversible and there’s nothing they can do but make him comfortable until the end.<br><br>I can’t believe the love of my life and husband is going to leave me so soon. He’s still with us but I can already tell he’s suffering so much. I don’t know how we’re gonna get through this, but we’ll just take it one day at a time. <br><br>Thank you all so much for your kindness, even strangers have been generous enough to offer us financial support.
