I wonder if anyone else has gotten stuck in the Mostar airport in Bosnia?

I was traveling back from a wedding in the Balkans on Sunday. Was supposed to fly to Split, Croatia, then connect in Zagreb, then connect again in Munich and then connect again in Paris and then connect again in Philadelphia.

When I made it through security, I realized that I had less than 15 minutes until boarding. I texted my wife and said that I was about to board the plane.

About 10 minutes later I realized it was 4:30 and that Mostar time is 6 hours ahead of Philly. I panicked and checked my boarding pass. It said 4:40. Checked my phone and it said 10:40. Thank God - 30 minute buffer. Then it hit me - I had texted my wife 10 minutes ago that I was about to board. I grabbed my stuff and ran to the gate.

When I got to the gate I saw that it was closed and the sign said that it had departed 15 minutes ago. My stomach just hit the floor. I think I even said "fuck" out loud. I wondered if I was dreaming. I ran to the ticket counter to explain what had happened. They said it had departed and that I could talk to the manager. They explained to me that when I went through security, it changed my time. I have an iPhone and have traveled extensively, including to the EU. I have never loose 6 hours going through security.

The manager came out and explained that they would not allow me on the plane because it departed and that my only options were to book a new ticket or cancel my trip. I explained my situation and that I needed to loose a day of pay if I had to wait 24 hours. They said they don't care. I asked to speak with their manager and they brought some very angry looking women out. I explained my situation again and she said she didn't care. I asked again to talk to her manager. She said she was too busy to call her boss. I asked for her name and phone number. She said "go fuck yourself" and walked away.

I went to the ticket counter for Austrian Airlines and they said they didn't have any flights to Philly. I asked if they had any flights that connected in Philly and they said no.

I went to the Lufthansa counter and they said they had a flight that connected in Munich and Philly. I asked how much it was going to be and they said it was $4,000! I said there was no way I was paying that. They said they could do a better search later in the day.

I then saw a little stand that said "airport hotel". They had a room available. I was surprised that the airport in Mostar had a hotel. I asked how much it was and they said it was $100. I figured that was a fair price compared to the $4,000 option.

When I got to my room, it was about 11:00, which I thought was 5:00. It was supposed to be 90° in Philly, so I figured I'd take a nap and then loose 6 hours when I woke up. I set my alarm for 3:00 and took a nap. Thank God I did. I woke up at 3:00, knowing it was 9:00 Mostar time.

I grabbed my stuff and went to the Lufthansa counter right when it opened at 5:00 Mostar time. I asked them to do another search. They said they had a flight that connected in Munich, Philly then Chicago. I asked how much it was and they said it was $1,500. I asked if they had a better flight and they said they had one that connected in Munich and Philly only. That one was only $1,000. I said yes. Thank God I took that nap.

So, to sum it up, if you travel through Mostar, DO NOT go through security until you know what time it is on your boarding pass.
