Why do corporate media outlets take for granted that anything that is bad for corporations is bad for the economy?

The corporate media has been amplifying the line "large corporations are essential for everyday life from clothing to groceries to anything else that people might need or want." as if it is an undisputed fact. It is true that corporations are integral to the economy, but to what level does this contribution get to the point that anything bad for corporations is bad for the economy as a whole? Why is this idea considered inherent?
