Did Netflix ruin anime?

I'm not a huge fan of anime, but I've always thought of it more as the hipster cousin of cartoons. It's always had it's own art style, but also the Japanese folks have been really good at not just making it their own, but also making it into a really thriving industry. When I was a kid, there was Naruto and Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball and stuff like that, which was all more in the vein of "this is our thing, we're keeping it over here."

But around the time of Attack on Titan, there was a big upswing in anime, and suddenly anime was actually really popular. And in there, at least as far as I can tell, Netflix jumped in and started licensing a lot of anime.

And then, it seemed like there was a change. Suddenly, a lot of the anime Netflix licensed was actually made FOR Netflix, and those anime are NOT good. It's like Netflix went "Oh the people want anime" but didn't really understand what anime's about. They made anime that was basically cartoons, as opposed to anime.

And in that, they went after the money. They kept licensing anime, but they kept pushing the "made for Netflix" stuff, which is deeply lacking. And because they were really good at getting their stuff out there, it seemed to me like the quality of anime was really going down.

I think there's still a lot of good quality anime coming out, but you have to really look for it, as opposed to before when it was pretty obvious.

So what do you guys think? Do you like Netflix's anime? I'm not a huge anime fan, but as someone who is artsy, I find anime to be a really cool medium, and I really don't want to see it ruined.

What are your thoughts?

Edit: Okay, so it seems like that this was the wrong place to ask. The first three comments were helpful, but after that, they were all kinda mean or aggressive. I understand that I might be ignorant of the full scope of this issue, but I'm posting this as someone who's interested in anime, but not an "anime fan". I don't know much about this, and I'm not claiming to. I'm just posting this to explore something that I see.

But I guess this isn't the right place to do that. I thought this was more of a discussion forum, but I guess it's just another echo chamber after all.
