Hi all. Never posted here before, but I'm a pizza guy. Started working at a chain pizza place a few months ago, delivering pizzas all over the city. I love it. It's great tips, and I meet a lot of interesting people along the way.

I've had a few experiences I'd like to share that are relevant to this sub. Nothing too crazy, but a few things that were strange or unnerving have happened to me in the past few months.

One thing you need to understand about my job is that I often work very late into the night. We stay open until 2am or 3am, which means I'm driving around and walking into apartment complexes well after midnight. Not ideal, but it's a job someone has to do, and tips are often better late at night.

The first experience was scary in retrospect, but not at the time. I was new to the job, still getting used to taking orders and running the register. A call came in, and I took it. The guy ordered the usual fare - a pizza, some wings, a two liter of soda. Nothing out of the ordinary. I took his address, and told him the total.

He was quiet during the whole exchange. I didn't think much of it. Lots of customers are quiet, and don't like to chat. When I told him the total, however, he seemed to hesitate. I asked if he had heard me, and he said he had. I repeated the total, and he said "yeah, that's fine".

I told him the total time, which was about forty-five minutes, and he said that was fine. I thought nothing of the call, and took the order. It wasn't until I was driving to his apartment, reading the address to my GPS, that I realized something was off. The address he gave me was our store's address, followed by "room seven".

That didn't make much sense. I pulled over and called my manager at the store, to ask her what was going on. She thought it was weird too, and told me to call the guy back.

I called him, and he answered. I confirmed that he had given me the address of the pizza store, and asked if that was what he had meant. There was a pause, and then he said yes. I thought this was very strange, but figured the guy was just lonely, and wanted someone to talk to. I told him I would be there in twenty, which was a lie. I hung up, called my manager again, and told her what he said.

She thought this was very weird, and told me not to take the order. She voided it, and said to stop calling him. I did, thinking that would be the end of it.

I was wrong. I had just started driving to my next delivery when my phone rang. It was the same number, and I recognized the guy's voice on the other end. He asked how long it would be, which I thought was very strange. I told him I wouldn't be delivering any food, because my manager thought the order was "shady".

He didn't say anything to that. I asked if he had put his name down, because I didn't see it. He said "no names". I told him "okay", and we both just sat on the phone, saying nothing. I finally broke the silence, and said I had to go. I hung up.

He called again. I sent it to voicemail. He called again and again and again. I didn't answer any of them. Finally, he stopped calling. At the time, I just thought he was some lonely weirdo, who wanted to chat up a pizza guy.

Now, in retrospect, I realize he was probably trying to get a read on when I would be alone, and vulnerable. It's scary to think that I could have been a potential target. That happened early in my tenure as a pizza guy. Since then, I've had a few more experiences.

The main one that prompted me to write this post happened last night. Again, this was a late delivery. I got the call around 1am, for an apartment on the other side of town. The order was normal, and the guy seemed nice enough. I was a little wary, because I had just had a scary experience right before this.

The previous delivery had been in a newdevelopment of apartments that were all townhouses. I thought that was strange, but the directions led me to the guy's house. I walked up to the door, and knocked, but no one answered. I called the number. A woman answered, and seemed very confused.

I told her who I was, and the name of the order. She didn't know what I was talking about. I thought this was very strange, but figured someone had given me the wrong address on purpose.

She and I chatted for a bit. She said she didn't know what was going on. I told her I had the address, and it was her house. She said someone must have given me her address on purpose.

I was kind of annoyed. I didn't get paid to talk to random women who ordered pizzas and gave me their address. But she was very nice, and we talked for a while. I wished her a good night, and hung up.

I drove away, lost, trying to find my next delivery. That was when I got the next call, and took the order that went to the apartment.

The guy ordered normal food, and seemed very nice. I told him the total, and said we would see him soon. I took the address he gave me, and put it into my GPS. It was in a complex of apartments. I drove there, and walked to the door with the food.

I knocked, and a guy came to the door. He paid me, and took the food. I walked back to my car, and drove away. I didn't think much of it, until I got a call from an unknown number.

I answered, and it was the guy from the door. He said "thanks", and I said "no problem". He paused, and said "you're really cute". I laughed awkwardly, and said thanks.

He asked me if I wanted to come back over, and I said no. That I was working, and couldn't hang out. He said "okay", and I told him to have a good night. I hung up.

When I was driving back to the store, I got another call. It was the same number. I declined it, thinking he was just trying to flirt.

I got another call, and another. I ignored them all, until I got back to the store.

When I got back to the store, I told my coworkers what had just happened. They thought it was weird, but figured the guy was just flirting.

Then, I remembered my previous delivery. The one where I had spoken to the woman who didn't order any food. I compared the two addresses, and realized they were in the same complex.

I think someone tried to find out when I was going to be alone, and vulnerable. The only reason I can think of for this, is that they intended to commit a crime against me.

I don't know for sure. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. But I believe in this sub's namesake. Let's not meet.
