I met someone who claims to have the same paranormal experiences as me

I've been experiencing paranormal events since I was a kid. Over the years, I became convinced that this only happens to me. I never found anybody who had the same things happen to them as have happened to me.

I'm 24 now, and I'm in my final year of university. My experiences have been a big part of my life for years, but I've never mentioned them to anyone at university. My friends at university are the friends I made after I turned 18, and I never saw any reason to bring up my experiences in conversation. I've only mentioned them to my girlfriend and a few other people in my life. I even avoided talking about it at home because my dad didn't want to hear about it. Now, at 24, I still don't talk about it to many people but I don't avoid talking about it either.

Last week, I was sitting in the cafeteria in the student union building when a girl I know walked by.

“Hey Tom,” she said. “How's it going?”

“It's going pretty good,” I replied. “I'm pretty stressed out. Finals are coming up and I still have so much work to do.”

“I feel the same way,” she said, “but I'm not doing great anyway.”

I felt bad that she had just said hi and I was complaining about schoolwork. I asked her what was wrong.

“It's nothing in particular,” she said. “I'm just really anxious. I have a lot on my mind.”

I could tell that something more specific was wrong and I asked her to be more specific.

“I don't know,” she said. “There's just a lot going on in my life.”

I have no idea why, but I decided to blurt out that I was also anxious because of supernatural events in my life. I think the reason I did this was because I had recently learned that she was in one of my classes and she had given a presentation on ghosts.

“Supernatural things?” she asked. “Like what?”

I listed off some things that had happened to me that stuck out in my mind: hearing footsteps in an empty house, seeing things move when nobody was there, hearing my name called when I was alone, seeing a ghostly shadow walk through my room.

She had the same experiences growing up, she told me. She had recently moved into a new house and was experiencing those things there too. She also mentioned a few other things that she had experienced that I hadn't. I had never heard of some of them, and some of them were things that I had heard of but had never experienced.

Over the rest of our conversation, we kept exchanging experiences and comparing notes. Every time I mentioned something, she would say that it had happened to her too.

“Do you ever hear knocking sounds when nobody's around?” I asked.

“Yes, that happens to me all the time,” she said.

“Do you ever see reflections in windows and mirrors that aren't really there?”

“Yes, that also happens to me,” she said. “Do you hear voices sometimes, like a voice saying something a few feet away from you?”

“Yes, that happens once in a while.”

“Do you ever feel a chill in your bones when you're by yourself?”

“Yes, that happens about once a week.”

“Do you ever experience cold breezes in an indoor place when the windows are closed and you aren't running any fans?”

“Yes, that happens once in a while.”

“Do you ever feel like you can't sleep because you have to protect yourself?”

“Yes, I've only felt that a few times but it was really intense each time.”

As we kept talking, I started feeling a little uncomfortable. I had the feeling that something was off. It was weird that she had the same experiences as me, and she seemed to have the answers to all of my questions.

“Do you find yourself feeling anxious that there's some entity watching you all the time?” she asked.

“Yes,” I replied. “I feel this way almost constantly.”

She thought for a moment.

“One other thing you might have experienced,” she said slowly, “is that you sometimes sense that something is wrong. You feel like something is off, even if there doesn't seem to be anything wrong. You can't quite pinpoint what it is.”

I nodded. I have experienced this feeling before.

“When was the last time you experienced this feeling?”

I thought for a moment.

“It's happening right now,” I said.
