CMV: The next POTUS needs to be an “average Joe” who is not wealthy.

In the US, probably the most common complaint about politicians from the average citizen is how “they don’t understand us”. We’ve had lawyers and business people and the wealthy run our government for decades - how is that working for everybody? <br><br>Why can’t the POTUS be a plumber, or a teacher, or a machinist? Why does he need to be a lawyer, or billionaire CEO? Our government was set up with the idea that a “regular Joe” could be president if that’s what the people wanted. “Politician” wasn’t a job title, like “Doctor” or “teacher”. Politicians were just regular people who agreed to serve for a short time before heading back to their farm. <br><br>The POTUS needs to be an “average Joe” who is not wealthy because he is much more likely to understand the needs of the millions of average people than he is to understand the needs of the tiny fraction of wealthy corporations.
