I have an older brother who’s almost 40. He was born out of wedlock and my grandma had to go fight for him to even get child support from his parents. She didn’t have a husband and was already supporting my mom (25f) and her two siblings. Anyways, my grandpa was around and in the picture but he left right after.

I didn’t really get to know him because he was always on the move and didn’t really want anything to do with children because it would just “hold him back”. He didn’t have social media and was already in his 70s in his prime, so I had to piece together his life like a puzzle. He was an avid hiker and world traveler. He went to the top of Mount Everest but didn’t have the right gear to the top so he turned back. He went to the pyramids and even lived in Japan for a few years. He was in the army for a few years too but didn’t stay long.
He was in the best shape I’ve ever met for a man in his 70s. I went with him to the gym and he could do more pull-ups than me. He got my grandmas old car and would drive from California to Texas and back in two days. Anyways, he stopped driving and gave me his car (which I used to go backpacking). He went downhill from there super quick.

He passed away last year. He was cremated and spread across the grand canyon. Anyways, he wasn’t a good family man but I really admired him for going out and making the best of his life.
