Scientists from the Government-funded Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois claim to have developed a new generation of rechargeable batteries, a completely new type of hybrid electrolyte battery that produces 50% more range than any other car battery and could be charged at the same speed as filling a tank of petrol.

It completely caches off the heat meaning the battery can take a lot more damage because it can't over heat and this will hopefully lead to the cars being longer lasting and with less faults. There is also be talks this battery can be used for normal vehicles and not just electric cars.

The Government have stated that this is the beginning of the end of petrol cars, this included the ending of diesel cars. Many have come out to criticise this and say the cars are all well and good but charge the cars off of what, a completely renewably resource. Because as of now most of the power is still going through coals and because of that we are not going to see a big difference.

Currently the cost of the new hybrid battery is unknown and also the price range for the vehicles and the cost to replace the batteries is also unknown.
