My mum took a lot of drugs back in the day, now she has neurodegenerative disease and is very open with me that she thinks the weed and psychedelics likely contributed to her condition

I (20m) have been seeing my mum's (50s) health decline over the past few years and have openly discussed with her what she thinks likely caused the neurodegenerative disease that she has been diagnosed with. She has been very open with me about how she took a lot of drugs in her 20s, and she is certain that this has contributed to her condition.

While my mum never said that she thinks the drugs definitely caused her condition, she has expressed her belief that they played a role in the development of her disease. She said that it is her body's way of telling her that she made bad choices.

I am scared to take drugs now because of what has happened to my mum. I'm just concerned that I may be genetically predisposed to the disease that my mum has. I know that correlation does not equal causation but I don't want to live through what my mum is going through.

Any thoughts on this?
