British people, have you ever noticed how everyone seems to like us when we’re abroad?

I’ve traveled to around 30 countries and everyone seems to love the British.

I’m from London and it’s rare I get someone who doesn’t speak a little English. I think I’ve only met 2 people who couldn’t speak any English at all in my life.

Everyone seems to like us, Americans are often very excited to meet us for some reason, same with Canadians and Australians. I met a guy from New Zealand and he just wanted to chat about the UK all day, same with some South Africans.

I was in Morocco and Egypt and they all seemed to have a good feeling towards us.

I was in Turkey and they were definitely pro-British. I met a guy there with a tattoo of Eddie Izzard in his personal joke shop and him and his friend loved us. Someone was in a pub and saw my accent and came over and was like “It’s a British PM, fuck you!” I assumed he was being sarcastic but he said he was serious in that he loves the British.

I’m from London but used to live in a relatively poor part of the country and everyone there seems to love us too. In the whole of my life I can count the amount of times I’ve had someone dislike me because I’m British.

I went into a bar in Pakistan and the guy running it said “I love the British, we used to be friends. Welcome to Pakistan.” And fed me free food.

I’ve had people in Kenya try to get me to stay extra nights at their house, everyone was friendly in India, it goes on.

Of course, there are places like France and Ireland where there’s a little rivalry but it’s nothing, they’re just trying to make us laugh and it’s all jokes. It’s not a case of them actually disliking us.

I realize this may be because I’ve only been traveling for 7 years so everyone I’ve met has grown up after the empire. But I’ve never been anywhere where people dislike us really.

I’m in Argentina now, and it seems like they don’t like the British because of the Falklands, but I’ve been speaking to some Argentinians and they answered my questions about if they dislike us and they said yes, but they don’t have any problems with us them selves, of course.
