People who say "humans weren't meant to work" have no basic understanding of how a society functions.

I want to preface this with: I completely agree that mental health days are essential and you should take care of yourself, amongst the fact that you should fight for better working conditions and just overall treat employees as valuable entities.

However, when people say "you weren't meant to work, you should enjoy life", they have no basic understanding of how a society functions. If every single the worker in a city like New York or London just didn't want to work, and just lived to enjoy life, who would feed them, who would supply them with their necessities? How would they pay for their own luxuries if they didn't have a way of earning money to begin with?

You can't have a life if there is no society to support that life. The two often go hand in hand. While we should strive towards a world where workers can have a great work life balance, it should not be thought of as a binary. "Work... or enjoy life".

We SHOULD work, as the labour we provide to society is what keeps us alive. At least, during our early years of life and adulthood. When we work, we contribute to society in a way that when we are old and are unable to contribute anymore, society will provide us with the labour we need to sustain ourselves, such as doctors and nurses. You can't have one without the other, in essence.

I do wish we could strike a perfect balance between enjoying our lives and working to contribute to society, but that discussion should not be had in the same breath as saying "you weren't meant to work".
