I’ll go first: Barack Obama’s cousin is a man named Kenyan McDowell.

If you’re a US news watcher, you might remember a very minor scandal that hit the news back in late 2011. Obama was in London at the time, having a beer with the PM (Cameron) and it was said that it was a special batch, brewed in the PM’s office specifically for the visit.

Except that there was a little mix up and the special brews weren’t labeled, so Barack was drinking regular beer, while Cameron and others were drinking the special beers. I’m not sure why this was even news.

Anyway, the local newspaper for Stratford On Avon (the brewery in question) had this very minor article, with a picture of the brewer. The brewer’s name? Kenyan McDowell. An American living in Stratford On Avon.

Perhaps it’s just a weird coincidence, but it’s clear from a cursory glance at family history that the McDowell’s were from Ireland, and I’m not sure how many McDowells wind up having the first name “Kenyan” (especially one living in the UK) without there being a familial connection.

Any other similar examples of this?
