What if you’re an alien from a highly advanced planet, but you don’t actually know anything about your planet?

Let’s say it’s the year 2300, and there’s a galaxy where a lot of planets have utopias of one kind or another. Your utopian planet is scientifically incredibly advanced, and the main aspect of the planet is that it has figured out a way to upload memories into a computer simulation.

When you die, your body is either cremated or buried (depending on the person’s preference), but the brain is frozen for a couple of years, and then it’s uploaded to a massive server. It’s expensive, but the technology is becoming more mainstream, and fewer people are choosing to not be uploaded.

The main point of this utopia is that the uploaded people have an enormous amount of power in the government. They are the ones who decide laws, and they’re the ones who decide when to go to war.

This is done to prevent government corruption, because the uploaded people are essentially immortal, and the goal is to keep them happy for as long as possible.

Now for the twist.

You don’t actually know the details of how the government works, and you don’t know much of the specifics about utopian technology, either.

You’re a young man, and you died after being hit by a car. You remember getting to the funeral, but for some reason, you remember the funeral taking place in a different part of the country than you originally lived.

You’re living in a utopia, and you don’t have to pay for food or anything. You’re in your 40s (you lived until about 60, so you’re actually younger than you look), and you’ve got a small apartment in a skyscraper, and you don’t remember anything about your life before your death.

What would be an interesting direction to go with this story?
