“6ix9ine is a dope rapper and I like his music.”

I stand by the above statement and I’ll keep standing by it even with all the hate in the world against him. He’s the rap equivalent of Freddie Gibbs, but with a more commercially digestible style. He’s annoying and lazy with his “humor,” but he is very, very good at his job, which is making hits and making money. I’m very, very tired of people brought in to talk shit about him actually knowing what they’re talking about. The vast majority of rap critics don’t like him because they’re woke or progressive or whatever, and they hate him because he’s a slimy, immoral celebrity who cares more about terfs and sherriffs and My Little Pony than he does about, like, institutionalized racism and their favorite childhood cartoon. And and all the conservative talk show hosts and online journalists who hate him because he’s a chiming sound on a list of Culutral Appropriation, Hy flexural Tension, and Nike Wars that they picked up at the airport on their way to Bapa Bapaland and don’t understand the first thing about. And all the TikTok users and Instagram users and Snapchatters and Twitter users and Facebook users and Truth users and all the rest of the people who think 6ix9ine is bad because he did bad things and isn’t a good person, who somehow never apply that logic to Snoop Dogg or Eminem or anyone else whose music they like. And finally, all the r/rap participants who think 6ix9ine is bad because he’s a white supremacist, even though he’s never dropped an album that actually has a political message, and never mentioned racist violence or Black Lives Matter or any of that shit, and never even liked the word “racist” before they literally put him in jail for being one and he finally looked it up and realized it’s not that good, and who say he “identifies” with white supremacists even though all his friends and associates are black or Hispanic and he “identifies” with them the way all fans of Margret Thatcher “identify” with her, whether you like it or not, whether he “means” it or not, whether he “knows” it or not - he’s their culture’s best representation of post-Internet hyperstition and uncertainty and cynicism, and their best example of a rap artist actually engaging with the changing nature of public, media, and reality imagery, and nothing any critic says about him is going to change my mind about how great his music is, how enjoyable it is to listen to, and how much I buy of it, and I’m not going to feel pressured to like his music less just because of things about him that I don’t care about and have no interest in, and that, unlike his music, I find absolutely disgusting and have no interest in hearing about in the place where we’re talking about rap music. And to all the people in between, who don’t know what they’re talking about, or are just parroting the above groups’ take on him because they like the sound of their voices or want to seem smart by bringing up a name they’ve heard of, with or without hearing his music - my above statement still stands, and you’re not going to change my mind about it with a Google search.
