Men don't conceal their depression very well and this can lead to misgendering and shrugging it off as "men don't show emotions"

It feels like more and more lately that people try and shrug off my emotions because being a man they assume I always keep things to myself. I'm no activist for burning the patriarchy, I just hate that I have to put extra effort in my communication to be clear on my emotional state when it feels like the natural state for my gender is to keep everything inside and never talk about it.

I am starting to realize that most people are fumbling in the dark and have no idea how to raise emotionally intelligent children. You have to teach them how to communicate their feelings in a healthy manner, instead of just teaching them to bottle everything up and deal with it alone.

The worst part is that people know that men don't express their depression outwardly, so when they see us acting depressed, withdrawn or sad, they just think that's part of being a man and don't take it seriously or notice. So we have to go to great lengths to show them, often in detrimental ways like suicide or homicide.

I have literally had people tell me that was laughing was "just being sarcastic" or "that wasn't funny and you can't laugh at that" so they just assume that we have a, right to feel things but not an right to express them.

It's just another example of how we don't have the same value as women and can be victimised verbally for things that would just be seen as joking for men.
