The perception of Russia as a regional power and sometimes a global power had been encouraged by the actions of the Russian state under Putin for many years, but many Russians still doubted that Russia could be the same as it was in Soviet times. When Russia invaded Ukraine and Russians saw the revival of Soviet power and influence on the international stage, people saw a sense of pride and euphoria and over the years many Russians have come to see Russia as a beacon of light in the world and the greatest power on earth after the United States. Russians have been convinced that Russia is not just a regional power but a great power that will stand against globalism and liberalism.<br><br>Putin did not accidentally raise patriotism, traditionalism and Russophobia in Russia. He did it for a purpose. Putin and his government may have been driven by ideology, but above all they were driven by financial gain and the preservation of their power. Putin's government has plundered the Russian state and Russian resources for years, and Putin and his government have taken most of the Russian wealth.<br><br>Putin and his government have been spreading propaganda among Russians for years, claiming that Russians are under attack from outside and that Russia is in danger. In reality, Russia was not in danger from outside. It was the Russian people who were in danger because of their government.
