CMV: Sharing memes with political implications doesn't do anything to make society move forward, even if it garners "Awareness", and is generally counter productive to political discussion.

This is a throwaway account, and I'd prefer not to dox myself.

You would be amazed how hard it is to find something that is *not* political on my timeline. So much of it is "Top 15 Trump Moments to make you laugh" or "Top 15 *alt-right whatever* Moments to make you cry" or "Top 15 Moments how policy X will ruin America".

Politics are admittedly a large part of *my* life. I spend a lot of time thinking about it, but at least for me, it should be a life to improve society, not make it worse. And most of the political memes I see on reddit are either shitposts or actual sincere posts which have been down-voted to oblivion on more political subreddits, in an effort to further echo chamber yourself.

I don't care if you hate Trump or love him, I don't care if you believe the left is an authoritarian movement. Whether it's this place or r/politicalhumor, the vast majority of this type of content is shit, and contributes *nothing* to policy discussion in the political system.

Make a change, go to a city council meeting or town hall, go door to door, get involved in a political party, join a union if you choose to do so. Hell, try to start a conversation about policy at your job or in the community.

If 3/4 of the shitloads of memes and shitposts were replaced with putting yourself out there in your community, and giving people information how to go to their local city council meeting and make their voice heard, that would be a change.

Political Memes are shit and do nothing for society, and I can't see a good argument for why. Please make me change my view.
