France is banning Tiktok from public institutions

The French government has announced that it will ban the use of TikTok by the staff of public institutions from 2024. The decision comes as part of a broader move by France to enhance its cybersecurity by restricting the use of certain apps on work devices, particularly those developed by companies with close ties to foreign powers like China.<br><br><br>According to a report from AFP, the French minister for digital transition and telecommunications, Jean-Noël Barrot, elaborated that the decision was made after an evaluation of the security risks associated with the apps. It aims to ensure that sensitive data and public information are better protected within the government.<br><br><br>Furthermore, Barrot mentioned that even though it's not mandatory for the staff to delete the app from their personal devices, the government encourages its employees to exercise prudence when installing and using applications developed by companies not based in the EU.<br><br><br>This move by France comes on the heels of similar actions taken by other European countries such as Belgium and the Netherlands, who have also taken steps to restrict the use of certain apps, including TikTok, on work-related devices due to concerns over data privacy and security.
