People who say "Humane slaughter" when they mean "I don't like the idea of animals being killed so I want to ignore this fact and call killing them differently so I don't have to accept that they're actually dead."

There's no such thing as "humane" slaughter. Slaughter by definition means killing for food, so it's always going to be slaughter no matter how you kill the animal.
