You shouldn't be able to sue over harm caused by off label use of pharmaceuticals

I've seen several pharmaceutical companies get sued and settle for 700 million dollars or more due to an addictive medication's off label use. This is insane to me since pharmaceuticals are approved by the government for certain off label use. I've even heard of lawsuits over warnings not being displayed strongly enough. If you want something that has not been approved you absolutely should have to go through the process to cover every possibility, read every single research paper on the subject, and realize that there are inherent risks to taking untested pharmaceuticals.
