A player asked me "how do I role play a scammer?"

I've been a Dungeon Master for a few months now. In the campaign, the players decided to scam a group of people out of their money. They were going to sell them a bunch of useless things and overcharge them. One of my players sent me a message saying "I don't know how to act like a scammer" I wanted to respond with "do you want to buy a bridge?"

I'll say this, I did end up responding with "what is a scammer?" But then said "look if you want to role play a scammer for an hour, I'm not going to stop you." Then I went and made myself a sandwich.

We've since continued the campaign and I introduced a magic item called "the scammer's mark". The idea is that the mark looks like a dollar sign, and it signifies if a person is a scammer. Now, my players have to deal with the scammer's mark.

I wonder, what are some ways to introduce scamming into a campaign?
