Thousands of travelers stuck in sweltering heat at Miami International Airport with no power, no airline staff, and no services.

Thousands more people have been stranded at Miami International Airport for hours with no airline staff to assist them, flights cancelling, little access to electricity, limited food and water, along with sweltering heat in and out of the airport.<br><br>On Saturday, 20 of Florida Power & Light’s (FPL) power lines were destroyed in the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia, leaving thousands without power.<br><br>The lines were destroyed after a transmission structure that was built in the 1950s collapsed, according to officials.<br><br>Miami International Airport is among those affected by the power outage.<br><br>“Unfortunately, as a result of a power structure failure, Miami-Dade County is continuing to experience a power outage impacting Miami International Airport’s concourses D, E, F, G, H and J,” MIA tweeted yesterday.<br><br>The airport added that the power outage was caused by a transformer failure and they were looking into a solution.<br><br>Earlier today, MIA tweeted that the power outage was still ongoing at the airport.<br><br>“We are currently experiencing a power outage at Miami International Airport, impacting concourses D, E, F, G, H and J,” the airport announced.<br><br>Virgin Atlantic confirmed the issues travelers were facing at the airport.<br><br>“Due to the ongoing power outage and lack of facilities on site, we can no longer check in customers for our flight from Miami (MIA) to London (LHR) that was scheduled for departure today at 8:05pm ET,” Virgin Atlantic added.<br><br>“Affected customers will receive an SMS or email with the next steps in due course, and can find further support in My Booking on our website.”<br><br>Flights at the airport have been delayed, with some airlines not having any staff to check in passengers.<br><br>British Airways announced that its 8:55 PM flight to London was cancelled.<br><br>Pictures have surfaced online showing travelers standing in sweltering heat and sitting on the floor waiting for help.<br><br>Travelers are fuming at the lack of facilities available to them at the airport.<br><br>One person asked in a tweet: “What are you doing for all the passengers that are still at the airport? No access to services all flights being delayed or canceled. No airline staff to talk to.”<br><br>Meanwhile, an airline employee posted on Facebook: “The airport is in shambles. So many flights delayed and cancelled, including ours.<br><br>“All these people have been sitting here for hours, some over 24 hours, and there is nowhere to plug in your phone, there is no one from the airlines to help them, and the limited restaurants that are open have no where to sit.”<br><br>The issues travelers are facing at the airport have been exacerbated by the sweltering heat.<br><br>Temperatures in Miami are forecast to hit 93 degrees today, with humidity expected to reach 67%.<br><br>The National Weather Service has warned there is a heat advisory in place for South Florida.<br><br>Miami International Airport is the busiest airport in Florida and among the busiest airports in the world.<br><br>The airport serves as a major hub for several international airlines and is the primary airport serving the Miami area.<br><br>The airport is also the largest cargo airport in the state and the busiest airport for international passengers in the US.
