Hey! I’m a student, and I think you might be doing something wrong.

Hello! I’m a student, this is the first time I’ve posted here, and I’m just going to get straight into it. I think there’s something you’re doing wrong, and that’s why we cheat.

I’ve seen tons of threads like “My students keep cheating on my quizzes that I give! How can I make them not cheat on the quizzes I give?!”, and it makes me so angry. It’s not the students fault, it’s not the teachers fault, it’s not the school administrators fault, it’s all of your faults. It’s everyone’s fault, including parents. It’s the fault of everyone involved in our lives, and it’s everyone’s responsibility to fix it.

Right now, cheating is the best possible option, because the consequences of cheating don’t compare to the consequences of failing. Our lives revolve around school. The only thing we’re judged on is school, and that’s not fair. We cheat because we don’t have time to learn 500 terms and definitions, or memorize a bunch of useless words in a language that may or may not be useful to us in the future. We cheat because our parents are breathing down our necks, and our lives depend on good grades. We cheat because our future depends on good grades. We cheat because the modern schooling system is a joke. We cheat because you’re graded on how well you do in school, not how well you do in life.

I’m not saying we should be given a free pass. I’m not saying we should be allowed to cheat. But I’m saying that we should be fairly judged. We should have the opportunity to prove ourselves in other ways. And I know I’m not the only one who feels this way, so now that I’ve said my part, it’s up to you to do something about it.
