The trend of "Imagine Superman but as a psychopath" wasn't funny or clever, it was just a psychotic white guy fantasy closet.

It was a constant trend of character in the 2010s. You could replace Superman with any other superhero and any other character and it wouldn't be humorous, it would just be thoughtless and disgusting. "Imagine Spiderman but as an asshole" or "Imagine Batman but as an evil dictator" isn't funny because a spider character who doesn't give a shit about other people isn't an interesting or cool spider character. A superhero character who doesn't give a shit about other people isn't a good person to in charge of a super power.

These "Alter ego as psychotic mass killers" superheros weren't "cool and edgy," they were just thoughtless and disgusting.

Not only that, but it was always some creepy, sexless, male nerds perspective of what a powerful superhuman would be like, and how they would use their powers. These comics and media were always made by creepy nerds, and these fantasies were always seen from the creepy nerd's perspective.

One of the biggest examples of this was the Watchmen DLC in the game "Marvel's Avengers." The whole character's whole existence is the creepy fantasy of a sexually inactive nerd. Dr. Manhattan becomes so disconnected from humanity that he doesn't care about them at all, doesn't even understand why people care that the world is still existing. He fucks his wife's corpse because he can now and she's "the only person he ever loved," even though they only married days before she died. He doesn't realise or care that this is offensive and weird. He goes off and does some things that "appear" to be evil, but since he doesn't care about mankind, it's really just entertainment to him. At one point he starts time moving at different speeds for him relative to the rest of the world. When he was young, a few minutes passed for him while decades passed for the rest of the world. A five year old version of him has super powers and teams up with Black Widow (who aged only a bit since she was an adult) and together they rob a bank. This appears to be a crime, but since the young Dr Manhattan doesn't understand the point of money and society, it's all just a form of entertainment. When he's older and sees the world dying, he doesn't care and basically has sex with matter again. On one of the in-comic pieces of lore, he basically goes and destroys a nuclear bomb seconds before it would have gone forth and destroyed Manhattan, but likely don't knew or cared that doing so ruined the families holiday plans and killed lots of people in the process of containing the radiation.

The whole character is basically the fantasy of what a superhuman would be like, from the perspective of a creepy nerd, and how they would use their powers and not care about the consequences. Since this was made by creepy nerds, they forgot to make him actually evil and evil-looking, they made him actually look like he was aesthetically upgraded by having his skin turn into crystal and his hair turn red. He just doesn't seem menacing at all, and since he doesn't seem evil, it just makes him seem like a creepy nerd's sexualised version of Superman.

Another big example was in the movie Bachman Comics #5 and #7, where Superman is an indifferent force of nature who doesn't care if a plane hits the White House or not. He basically had sex with Mars, and at one point he goes and destroys the sun because he didn't like the look of it. It's another example of a "super powerful being as psychopath" superhero, not a good "superhero as psychopath" story.

Another example is in the movie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" where Superman basically destroys a cityblock as a way of threatening Lois Lane and Batman.

Another example was in the V for Vendetta comic where Superman was a tool of the oppressive regime who would push old people into incinerators for fun.

Another example is in the film "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" where a Superman counterpart called Zara-X has the ability to destroy the world's oceans with his eyes.

Another example is in the film "Death of Superman" where this version of Superman is a mass murdering psychopath.

These are just a few of the examples, but in the 2010s it seemed like every superhero movie or comic book would have a character or scene that was a psychotic white guy's fantasy. They weren't interesting or clever, they just made me feel disgusted.
