My college city was plagued by a serial killer when I was a student. I found out a few months ago that he was in my classes.

The murderer was Christopher Shaw, a 23 yyo guy who was a senior at the same university I was at. He was a communications major (I was a business major) and a lot of my business major friends took a class from his professor (as did I). Chris was a frequent tutor for the professor. We’re all convinced that he tutored my friends, and a few years ago I was looking through his myspace page (because I had a class with him but didn’t know he was a killer because he was kicked out before his arrest).<br><br>Chris had written a poem on his myspace page called “OUR SECRET”. I also saw that he had a myspace post about the murder of an Indian student, and his friends were all like “I’m so sorry this happened to you/I hope they catch you!”. I remember thinking “wow, I’m just so glad he wasn’t a student in our city anymore” because I had heard that Sharath was attacked while studying for a class he was in.<br><br>I have a small tattoo of Shatath on my ankle, and every time I see it I remember the way Shaw wrote about it in the media before his arrest, how he didn’t know that he had killed the guy and was so sorry for what he had done. That guy really wanted to be a celebrity. It’s so fucking sick.<br><br>Chris was arrested in the summer of 2008, and I remember someone showing me a news article about his arrest where he said that he knew he had to tell the truth because “the truth is the only thing that will set you free”. My mom always teases me that she’s glad I’m a “blonde” and not a “brunette” because he only attacked brunettes. I just hope I wasn’t his type. I have always wondered if my college town still gave me the creeps because of this.<br><br>Edit: he didn’t actually kill Sharath Koppula, I’m not sure who the other victim was. He was arrested before he actually killed anyone. I also just looked at the police report and IT WAS MY CLASSMATE WHO WAS STABBED. They didn’t know the guys name at the time because he was still in a coma, so you can imagine my surprise. I just texted my old roommate and told her all of this. She said the tutor always made her feel weird. Yikes
