Question for middle school teachers: How do you handle phone discipline?

I’m a high school teacher, and this past summer, my high school chose to go cell phone free. We practically doubled down on the no cell phones policy. We used to give verbal warnings, then then detention, then parents were called, and after that, the phone was taken from the student. I have no problem with any of it, but I’m curious, how does it work in middle school?<br><br>Every single time I have had to take a phone, I have been met with resistance from the parents, like it was some kind of attack on their child, and it’s somehow my fault that their kid couldn’t follow a simple rule. How would they handle it in a middle school setting?
