Nvidia is announcing new graphics processing units (GPUs) today, including the RTX 4080 and 4090, as well as 16-inch laptop GPUs. Today’s announcements were made at Nvidia’s annual event for developers, researchers, and press.

The RTX 4090 will launch on October 12 for $1,599, the same price as the 3090ti. The RTX 4080 will launch in two versions. The first model has 12GB of memory and will cost $1,199. The second model offers double the memory and will cost $1,499. Recency bias may be playing a roll here but these prices are way more reasonable than I thought they were going to be.

Ada Lovelace, a new micro architecture for the GPUs that is supposed to bring better ray tracing performance & AI applications. The RTX 4000 GPUs will have shorter boards making them more compatible with PSUs. Not much information was given about the laptop GPUs except they will begin shipping in February 2023.

Opinion:
I don’t know if it’s recency bias, but the prices seem reasonable for a launch. I’m sure they will skyrocket later. It’s a major leap from 30 series GPUs when you compare them. Considering how long it took for 30 series GPUs to get somewhat reasonable, I’m guessing the same thing will happen for these (or at least I hope), but I’m not holding my breath.
