LPT: If you didn’t grow up in a wealthy family, you can easily beat a rich person to a very good used car with some basic knowledge of car maintenance.

Let me explain:

There is this very nice lady who works at the doctor’s office I go to. She is a very sweet lady, who apparently grew up in a wealthy family. She never learned how to change her oil, or even how to check her oil. So the engine of her SUV blew up.

She had someone come pick up her SUV, and drive it to a mechanic, have someone at the mechanic look at it, get a quote, then have it delivered back to her house. She decided to get a new SUV, so she hired some man to come and pick it up and drive it back to the same mechanic she had it dropped off at, then have him sell it for her. Apparently this man is buying it from her for $500.

So a rich person with no car knowledge had to pay someone else to do everything for her.

The total cost of the maintenance she could have done all by herself was roughly $1,000 or less. That’s 2x what she was going to get paid for the SUV.

She was complaining that her SUV was barely 10, and it already blew up. That’s 10 years of not checking the oil level. She could have easily maintained the SUV herself and saved herself the money for a new SUV, or at least gotten a good trade-in value.

The title speaks for itself.
