Religious zeolotry and Scientism are the two biggest enemies of reaction and they are the two biggest hurdles in our path towards the restoration of a Traditional Order. This is not to say that religion doesn't have its place in society, it absolutely does, but it is important that we recognize its role and understand the pitfalls which Christian Scientism presents to our cause.

Religion is essential to Reaction, as it provides the meta frame-work that is required to challenge the false religion of Scientism. But religion should never be elevated in the same way that reason is elevated by the Scientism religion. Christian Reactionaries often times do this as a knee jerk reaction to Scientism and think that by appealing to the religious sentiments and superstitions of people they can out compete Scientism in the realm of social significance. This is a loosing strategy however, because when Christian Reactionaries try to elevate Christian dogma to the same level as reason, they inevitably end up issuing from their frame-work arguments that are reasonable and rational, which push Christian dogma to the periphery.

Religion is not a military or a strategy that anyone can simply pick up and wield; it is a cultural phenomenon that requires a deep spiritual and communal connection. It is a glue that holds a people together and gives them a shared sense of meaning and purpose. When Christian Rightists try to turn religion into an intellectual weapon and a tool with which to challenge Scientism, they end up weakening the social bond that religion is intended to create and strengthen. Last but not least, the intellectual frame-work and value system of religion will always be viewed with skepticism by the common man, until such a time that he is able to enter into its spiritual fold. Any attempt to use religion to out reason Scientism, inevitably shields a persons Scientistic values and sentiments from criticism and leaves them untouched.

The biggest challenge to reaction and restoration of a Traditional Order is persuaded people to realize that the world should not be viewed primarily through the lens of reason. Reaction requires a certain level of intellectual humility and an understanding of the limitations of reason. It also requires a deep spiritual awakening on the part of the masses, which can only be achieved by entering into the spiritual fold of religion. Christian Rightism, which seeks to elevate religion to the same level as reason, is a hindrance to this process, because it inevitably leads to the framing of meta political arguments in a rational and reasonable manner, which diminishes the spiritual significance that religion is supposed to represent.

Christian Rightists often times talk about the importance ofFaith, but they inevitably end up reducing Faith to "blind" reason when they try to elevate Christian dogma to the same level as reason. Reaction requires a meta political strategy that is capable of challenging the "rational" and "reasonable" consensus, and of exposing the values and sentiments that underly Scientism for what they are. It requires a deep understanding of the social and cultural forces that shape our values and sentiments and the institutions that inculcate them into the minds of men. It requires an understanding of the pitfalls of Christian Rightism and an ability to transcend them.

Religion is not something that should be "respectful" of reason. That is to say, religion should never be considered reasonable and rational in the way that Christian Rightists try to make it. Rather, religion should be viewed as a cultural and spiritual phenomenon that exists above and beyond the rational consensus. It should be viewed as something that is more important than reason and something that is capable of transcending it. Transcendence, however, does not mean ignoring or dismissing reason. It means that religion should be put in its proper place and viewed as a social and cultural glue that holds a people together while simultaneously challenging the values and sentiments of Scientism.

** Scientism is a term used to describe the philosophical and metaphysical worldview of Modernity. It is a worldview that worships reason as an end in itself and views it as the sole provider of knowledge and truth. Scientism is also characterized by the values and sentiments of radical skepticism, empiricism, and the disenchantment of nature. It is a worldview that rejects any knowledge or truth claim that cannot be measured, observed, or verified using the scientific method, and it is a worldview that is deeply hostile towards religion and traditional knowledge.**
