The man who came to my door

We moved into this house a little over a year ago. We love it. It is a ranch style with a basement and a full walk up attic. It was well maintained and the location is perfect. It is a split level so the bedrooms are only halfway up. The stairs come down into the living room and there is a door under the stairs that leads to the basement. This is not a strange thing to have under your stairs, its just important to the story.

I was 8 months pregnant at the time and my husband and I were painting and getting everything ready for the baby. The day in question started with a nap. I think I might have dozed off on the couch but it might have been the recliner. Either way I had dozed off and was sleeping fairly lightly. When I started to wake up I could here someone talking outside. At first it sounded like they were inside the house with me. The voice sounded deep and masculine. I slowly came to and realized it was actually coming from outside. I got up and looked out the window and there was a man at the door. The way our house is laid out, you can not see the front door from the living room. The front door opens into a long hallway. There is a door straight in front of you, the front door. To your left are the stairs up to the bedrooms. To your right is a short hallway with 2 doors, one for the living room, one for the kitchen. The man was standing at the front door.

The man talking was fairly tall and thin. He was dressed in a long coat that was open and a dress shirt with no tie. He looked to be in his mid 30s. He had a strange look on his face. He looked like he was mad but trying to keep a smile on his face as he talked. The only thing I could make out was him saying "I just want to talk to her for a minute". There was a woman standing in front of him. Her back was to me so I don't know what she looked like. She was holding her arms out to the sides and blocking his way. She looked over her shoulder at me and said "Ma'am is there a problem here?". I said "yes". She turned back to him and ushered him away from the door. I continued to watch as they walked away. I saw her get into a car across the street and drive away.

I was so shaken and concerned. I called my husband at work to tell him what had just happened. I had never been so scared in my life. The thought that someone had been watching me and knew I was home alone sent chills down my spine. It still does. I never saw or heard from her again. I never learned her name or anything about her. But she saved me. I dont know what would have happened if she hadn't been there. So to the lady across the street from my house at the time, if you ever see this, Thank you so much. I owe you everything. I will never forget you.

To the man at the door, you scare the hell out of me. I hope life has been hard for you and it only gets worse. You are a sick, sick man.

Edit: I don't really know if this is relevant to anyone but I use Grammarly. So any mistakes are probably mine. I have a lot of trouble with spelling and grammar and this is a great tool to help with it.

Edit2: So many people have asked about calling the police. I didn't but having never been in a situation like this before I didn't know how they would handle it. It was scary and I was shaking so bad and I just didn't think to call them right away. They weren't called until my husband got home. Thank you all for your concern, it means a lot.

We have tried to find the lady but have been unsuccessful. We have talked to all the neighbors and no one knows anything about her.
