I'm a native New Yorker and this city is dead. Many of my favorite businesses have closed. I definitely should not have come back to this city. It's been a tragedy. I started a job and got a house and I don't think I'll be able to break my lease or get out of my job even if I want to. But I can assure you that this city is either dead or dying. Every day I hear the sounds of construction but you never come by and it's finished. It's just day after day after day of construction but nothing opens. Every day I see stories of just more businesses closing. I heard the New York Times did an article on why New York will never be the same. I think that's true. I'm sure you've heard the topic of the city dying discussed extensively but I just want to say it here because I'm a native and I get to see everything happen day by day. People say that the pandemic is over but I don't see it here. It's dead. I can't imagine this place will ever be as good as it was. A lot of the best restaurants just never came back. Apparently if I was living in New York I would know, but I had no idea that a lot of the chains closed so many locations. I had no idea how bad the city was because I was someone that lived in the suburbs for the last 7 years. I read some posts about the city dying and that's true. It's dead.

Edit: Okay so there's a lot of people telling me the city is alive and well. I'm not saying it's dead and abandoned. The city is absolutely not dead in that way. But it's not the same. New York lost its flair. New York culture is definitely not the same. I've been very disappointed. I love this city but to say it's the same as it was is absolutely insane. It doesn't feel like New York culture anymore.
