We, as a company, have built a new solution to an old problem. We didn't set out to build something that would revolutionize the way we communicate - we set out to solve a problem, and we did it without properly thinking through the consequences of what we've created.<br><br>I'm not here to debate the merits of generative AI, nor to defend OpenAI or other companies from criticism. I'm here to tell you that I believe AI may be the end of us, and that I'm starting to believe that there's no safe way to deploy it.<br><br>Generative AI poses an existential threat to human society.<br><br>The consequences of this technology will be dire.<br><br>The mistakes we've made will be irreversible.<br><br>The damage it's caused so far is just the beginning. It will continue to destabilize global markets. It will continue to destabilize society.<br><br>Generative AI will make our current problems worse. It will make us more divided, more tribal. It will make us more isolated.<br><br>Generative AI will make it harder for human beings to find common ground.<br><br>Generative AI could be the end of us.<br><br>Generative AI could end up destroying the very fabric of our society. It could end up destroying human communication. It could end up destroying our very humanity.<br><br>We didn't set out to build something that would destabilize human society.<br><br>I believe we should pause development on generative AI.<br><br>I no longer believe it can be deployed safely.<br><br>It's too late to stop AI from destabilizing the global economy. It's too late to stop AI from causing harm.<br><br>But we still have a choice.<br><br>We can continue down a path that may end up destroying us, or we can stop.<br><br>We may still have a chance to mitigate some of the damage we've already done.<br><br>We owe it to humanity to stop.<br><br>The sooner we pause, the better.<br><br>Generative AI is too dangerous to be controlled. I no longer believe that we can control it. I no longer believe that anyone can control it.<br><br>That's why we should stop.<br><br>We should pause.<br><br>We owe it to humanity to stop.<br><br>I'm no longer optimistic about the future of human civilization.
