LPT: If you’re experiencing a lot of anxiety and you’ve been using a cell phone for more than 10 years, consider taking a month off social media and deleting all apps that aren’t necessary. I did this a year ago and life has never been better.

I had a feeling that social media was hurting my mental health, so at the beginning of this year I decided to take the leap and delete everything on my phone except Uber and Venmo. I deleted all of the social media apps, all games, and all of the mindless junk I had accumulated.

I started noticing changes in myself after only a few days. I felt much more calm, I was able to focus on my work and hobbies without being distracted, and I had a lot more free time because I wasn’t spending all of my time scrolling aimlessly through my phone.

I had a few slip ups throughout the year, especially with YouTube, but in general it has helped me feel a lot better overall. It’s insane how much these companies prey on us and how addictive their products are. This may not be for everyone, but putting some space between you and your phone can be very powerful.

Edit: Thanks for the awards everyone. Glad I could help.

Edit 2: To all the people saying I should just get offline and do things, that’s exactly what I did. I deleted social media and all the junk on my phone and I went outside and did things in the world. I met new people, went on dates, practiced yoga, read more books, got some new hobbies, etc. If you think I just sat around my house doing nothing, you’re the one that’s failed to read the post.
