Something happened about a year back that I wanted to share on here.

My mother in her early fifties, lives by herself in a semi-detached house, she was once married to my father but they separated about two years ago after being married for about 25 years. My father was abusive to my mother for nearly all of their relationship, eventually she broke free from him and refused financial help when he tried to buy his way back into her life. She was on her own for the first time in her life.

One day she answered the door to a man in his mid 30s who was asking about the land she owned, a green space where she had a small shed which she used to keep her gardening equipment in. Now, although this land was hers, my father had allowed his family to use it for their dogs to shit in, over the years, it had become a unofficial dog park. So when my mother answered the door to this man, she was unaware of this fact. After he explained he was selling his land nearby and wanted to talk to my mother about the land she owned, they arranged to meet by the green space.

He highlighted that the land was in a disrepair state and even though he had no interest in buying the land, he felt she would be better off selling him the land so he could renovate the area into a small park. Whilst on inspecting the land, she was appalled to see that her land had been turned into a dog shit park and all the fence posts had fallen down and the shed in the corner was dilapidated. He told her he would be happy to have the fence repaired and the land cleared up but that would come at a cost to her. He tried to haggle with her until they both parted ways.

My mother was distraught, she had no idea that this land was in such a state, all the years she was with my father he had never bothered to tell her about this, she thought he was just behind with the gardening.

When she got home, she decided to phone my father and his family and explain what had happened. This is where it gets funny:

They were outraged that she had been talking to the man and outright told her she had no business selling the land as it was theirs to use. They told her that the land was actually hers and my fathers and that it was a joint asset and she couldn’t sell it without his permission. She told them that she had no intention of selling it to him, it was just that she didn’t know how to proceed.

He told her, she had nothing to worry about, that he would send his sons (my brothers) round to inspect the damage and repair the fence and clear the land. Fast forward a few days and no one has turned up, the only communication she’s had is my youngest brother calling her up and telling her that she’s being lazy and should stop getting a free ride and clean up the land herself.

My mother was in tears on the phone to me when she told me what had happened. She told me she would get a fence repair and that she would try to do it herself, I remember her saying “I’m not doing anything wrong, it’s mine, not theirs to use”

I told her to hold off, that I want to meet this man who was trying to buy her land. I met the man at the land and he explained he was doing a joint business venture with two of his friends, he was the guy to talk to about the land sale, but one of his friends would be the one to fix the fence and clean up the land, all he needed was permission.

I’d never seen this man before, but after talking to him, I had a good feeling, he seemed genuine. I explained it was my mothers land and she wanted to know how much it would be to get the fence fixed and the land cleared up. When he gave me the quote, I told him we would need to think about it.

I met up with him two days later at the land, he was on his own. He offered to buy me a coffee and we sat down in his car and talked. I asked him why he was doing this, why was he offering to help my mother, why was he so keen on buying the land. He looked at me and said “Look, my friends and I are going through a phase in our lives, where we’re coming to the realisation that we can’t trust women, they don’t want to help anyone but themselves, my friends and I have been screwed over by women in our past, but we’re not angry, we just want somewhere to relax in peace away from the bullshit women bring when they want to leech off of our labour, we want a place where we can just chill and enjoy nature without having to compete with women for it. But your mother, I would say she was the first woman to make me feel sorry for her, she was in genuine need of help, she had no ulterior motive, she was just a lady who didn’t know what to do and we wanted to help her, because no one else will. Your father and brothers were too lazy to help her, we want to help her, is that okay with you?”

In that moment I trusted him and genuinely believed him. I told him yes, please, do it for free and don’t worry about buying the land. He looked at me and grinned and said done.

The next day, it was a beautiful sight, my mother had a completely new fence, new shed, and the land was cleared up. I went to inspect it and I have to say, it looked fucking great! I was really surprised by the quality, they had done a fantastic job of it.

My mother didn’t stop thanking me, she thought it was me who had arranged it, I didn’t want to tell her it wasn’t me, I wanted her to feel I was protecting her, so I let her keep thinking it.

It’s been a year since this happened and my mother gives them the odd pot of food or some beer whenever she sees them. Everytime she calls me, she’s still thanking me for looking out for her.

The man and his friends who helped my mother, I’ve seen them around, they’ve done similar things for other people in the neighbourhood. They’ve helped a few people in need, they even helped an old guy fix his car when it broke down on him. Why? Because they wanted to.

I don’t know what happened to them in their past, but it’s clear that they were once nice guys and have since gone their own way. I’m glad they have.

So there you have it. A MGTOW helped my mother and I’m forever in their debt.
