AITA for giving my husband a fake Valentine’s Day gift?

So, last year I got my husband a really nice watch, something that he’s wanted for a long time, for Valentine’s Day. He ended up selling it behind my back, and used the money to pay for this stupid tattoo he got of his dead best friend. The tattoo was just a picture of his friend’s face, which is creepy as hell in my opinion.

He says that the tattoo was something that he and his friend had planned for a while, to get a portrait of the other when one of them inevitably went first. And my husband says that I shouldn’t have a problem with it because it’s for his friend, and I’m the one who decided to give him a Valentine’s Day gift.

So this year for Valentine’s Day, I decided to play a little trick on him. I got a cheap, blank piece of canvas from Walmart, painted a quick portrait of my dog, and put it in one of those framed things they sell at Joann’s. And I assumed that after he realized that it was a joke, we could actually work on getting something that he really wanted.

But now he’s actually mad at me for wasting my time, and says that he was actually really touched by the painting when he first saw it. And I’m just sitting here wondering when he’s going to realize that it’s just a stupid painting that I spent 30 minutes on.
