If you're an active duty US Military member with an Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Texas, Utah, or Wyoming Driver's License, you can purchase a handgun in Maryland.

Don't even have to jump through the hoops of getting a Maryland Handgun Qualification License! I'm a civilian who recently moved to Maryland from Oregon. Since I have an Oregon Driver's License, I went to our local gun store to inquire about purchasing a handgun. The staff were very friendly, and they were willing to work with me (as a "non-resident", since I wasn't yet a Maryland resident).

They informed me that when I got my Maryland Driver's License, I could purchase a non-"hi-cap" (10 rounds or fewer) handgun. I asked about purchasing the firearm before I get my Maryland License, since I'm still an active duty US servicemember assigned to the state of Maryland.

They called the Maryland State Police, and were told that "anyone with an Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Texas, Utah, or Wyoming driver's license can purchase a firearm in Maryland, regardless of residency." They then told me they wouldn't need any additional information other than my active duty military ID.

I thought that was interesting and worth sharing. I know that a gun doesn't have to suck just because it doesn't have 19 rounds in the mag, but it still sucks that you can't purchase the "hi-cap" variants in Maryland. Still, it might be information that could be useful to some of you. I know I hadn't heard about it before I went to the gun store, so I thought I'd throw it in here for the rest of you.
