I'm a bit of a exotic car collector and I have been successfully investing in exotic and classic cars for the past 10 years. I own several high end cars, including a Diablo SV, Ferrari 599 and an F40.

This year, my parents house burned down due to my brothers recklessness. Thankfully, nobody was hurt and my parents were able to move into a rental home as my father is still working and makes good money for the local government. My brother and I are awaiting the rebuild which should be finished in 2 years. I've received quite a bit of backlash for giving my Ferrari F40 to my handicapped brother after the burn down.

My brother is severely handicapped due to birth complications and as a result, he is unable to work and will be unable to work for the rest of his life. He is unable to walk properly and walks with a cane, he is also partially blind. He has the brain capacity of a 5 year old and requires constant attention. Unfortunately, he also has a bad habit of destroying things. Not out of hate, but more out of curiosity. He smashed my action figure collection several years ago when he was curious about it, (he was 5 at the time and he is 19 now). However, he is getting better now that he is older.

I know that he won't truly comprehend the value or rarity of the car, but he would love it. When he was younger and my parents were out of the house, he would sneak in and turn on the alarm of my Diablo just so he could hear the sound of it. He loves the shape of it, the color and the sound of the alarm.

I told my parents about my decision and they said it was a horrible idea and that he would destroy it. My brother overheard us and started crying and promising me that he would take good care of the car and that he wouldn't touch the alarm. I've also set numerous rules about the car which include not allowing him to open the engine bay or to ever touch the alarm. He's agreed to all of them so far.

I understand that the car is valuable and highly collectible, but he's my only brother and I love him more than I could ever value any car, no matter how rare. I do have other exotic cars and I'll likely be buying more in the future. I just want to make him happy and I know that he'll love the car.

AITA for giving my exotic car to my mentally handicapped brother?

EDIT:

I am a millionaire because of my father, I've inherited quite a bit of money and I'm not too far off from inheriting more. I've made successfully invested the money and have made more than I've spent. I have 5 exotic cars and over 30 classic cars. All of my cars are my babies and I take good care of them all.

The alarm on the Diablo sounds like the sound from the Fast and the Furious movies. It's very unique and it's honestly a beautiful sound. He loves the sound of the alarm, not the actual alarm itself.

I do not plan on leaving my brother the car when I die. He will be well taken care of by whomever is his Power of Attorney. He's not capable of owning his own house, let alone a exotic car. The car will likely be sold or given to someone who wants it more than him, but until then, he can enjoy it.

I don't plan on giving him the keys to the car, he cannot drive legally and is not capable of driving. I will be keeping the keys and driving him around in it whenever he wants.

If you're calling me an AH for treating my brother like a human being, perhaps you should re-evaluate your own morals.

EDIT 2:

Everyone keeps talking about how bad it is to give such an expensive and valuable car to a handicapped person. How this is the "worst thing" someone could ever do. I'm confused, I thought giving it to him would be a good thing? I've been called an AH for giving such a valuable item to my handicapped brother, but I thought it would be NTA.
