Havent seen a thread on it

Anyways, I lift all the time and have never been caught but I will not be taking into consideration if you've been caught before because it is not a statistic. I want to know what was people's reasons for getting caught.

1. This one is self explanatory (even though I've been caught doing this too) is being caught by a camera. If you can locate the cameras and eyes it will make it alot easier to shoplift. Knowing the type of camera will also help. If you know the camera is not capable of zooming in, it can be alot easier to lift. Some cameras can zoom in into the tiniest detail which would be very hard to lift from.

It can be very hard to locate cameras in some stores, so I advise you to use common sense and think of where YOU would put cameras in the store. Know? Isn't that easy?

2. This one is also very self explanatory. If you get caught by an employee that is walking around or is in a position to see you like the self checkout employees. They are very suspicious into the people that use the self checkout machines. They think the self checkout is where the most shoplifting happens. They are very suspicious of people who don't scan items and they try to look at your screen without being obvious.

3. Getting caught at the checkout is actually a very common way of being caught. If the checker thinks that you are trying to do a common checkout scam they will keep an eye on you. Checkout scams happen a lot if you didn't know, I will post a few below

A. This is a common one. You will scan most items then purposefully "forget" your wallet or cart and leave to go get it. When you come back you will pretend that you forgot to scan some items. Some checkout employees are very dumb but most will catch on.

The best way to avoid this is by scanning all items. Once you scan all items you can avoid alot of suspicion.

B. This is another checkout scam. This one is a little harder to find out but if you are a checkout employee you will be able to catch on. What scammers do is they wont put items on the scanner. They will just stack them up so they are still on the cart. This way the checkout employee wont know that they havent scanned all their items.

The best way to stop this one is by actually looking at the items on the cart instead of just looking at the scanner.

C. Alright, so this is the most common way shoplifters are caught. This is if a checkout employee finds out that you havent payed for an item. They see that you havent payed for an item by looking at all of your items to make sure they are all on the scanner. This is hard to do but if you know the signs then you would catch alot more shoplifters

You can tell if a shoplifter is going to be suspicious if they are trying to stack items in different ways or if they look nervous. If they are looking around or keep talking. They are most likely trying to lift.

If you are a checkout employee then you should use common sense. If they lay an item flat then you should look underneath it.

D. The final one is if you try to pay for an item with coupons then try to sneak the item in your bag when the checkout employee is not looking. This is an easy one to catch on to because if you have 15 items and only 2 coupons, it makes it very suspicious. If you try to do this I would advise you not to because this is a very common way shoplifters get caught.
