What's the significance of the memes?

I'm mostly talking about Carrot on a stick memes, but can anyone here explain why TLOU2 and memes?<br><br>I'm seriously asking because I love them and they're endlessly entertaining to me, but besides all the other stuff I don't know why the memes are important.
