… we’re not getting AGI anytime soon.<br><br>I did a little digging on arXiv and while there’s been a lot of progress even in the last 5 years, we’re not there yet. AGI definitely feels like the classic case of “10 years away” for the past 50 years. <br><br>Here’s what even the state of the art vision and language models have trouble with:<br><br>· Reasoning (can’t reason with basic logic)<br><br>· Abstract reasoning (can’t reason with abstract concepts)<br><br>· Knowledge consistency and memory (struggle to recall past information or facts)<br><br>· Emotion understanding (can’t understand emotions, don’t have emotional intelligence)<br><br>· Commonsense (can’t understand simple everyday situations)<br><br>These are pretty basic things that humans can do, and yet the state of the art in AI can barely do them. AGI is going to be a lot harder to achieve than people think.
