Am I being too intolerant for not tolerating that asshole?

This is what happened today.

Today was the last day of my school and I was sitting with 4 of my classmates (3 Hindus and 1 Muslim) and I decided to do a normal survey that is,

"How many of you have ever cheated in the exam?" (It was a very normal question, believe me and not of religious kind and didn't ask only to that Muslim friend).

And he was the only one to raise his hand and I just smiled and asked him that "Brother you are a bad boy".

My Muslim friend said that "He wants to join the army and we have to work hard".

I said, "You can work hard but cheating is not okay".

Then he started saying that "You are a Hindu and you want to oppress Muslims".

I asked, "How come I am oppressing you when I am just talking about not cheating?"

And then he replied that "You are intolerant towards us and you don't tolerate us".

What?

It was not even about religion.

He had gone too far.

Was it wrong to just ask him about not cheating?

Was it my mistake that I was just discussing a normal schoolboy's mistake?

Was that intolerance?

Or was that my intolerance towards his hypocrisy?

I don't even know.

Even my Hindu friends were in agreement with me that I wasn't wrong but that asshole was still blaming me for being intolerant.

I don't know what the hell is going on and why that Muslim friend is getting so triggered and trying to make it about religion?

Why are they so salted and triggered and do not even give us a chance to speak?

Edit: Thank you friends for the gold and kindness.
