I just found out that my husband has been heating up my breast milk in the microwave.

I'm 39 years old and a first-time mom. My husband and I had our baby girl at the beginning of April, and we've been learning on the fly.

Like any new parent, we've had our share of mistakes, and this may seem minor to some people, but it's been keeping me up at night. I expressed breast milk using a pump and freeze it in bags for whenever I need them. My husband would give the baby this expressed milk when I'm not around.

However, a few days ago, I left the house with our baby and when I returned home, I had this weird feeling that I can't explain. I checked the freezer and noticed that a bunch of breastmilk bags were thawed out (which meant my baby had already been fed those). I asked my husband about it, and he said that he had warmed it up for the baby with a weird smile on his face.

I then had an idea. I went to the freezer and left a bag at the same temperature as the rest of the bags there (-160°C). Over the next few days, I'd periodically check on it to see if it had thawed, and it didn't. So, I told my husband that I was going to do something I had been wanting to try with my breastmilk. I asked him to heat it up with the microwave so I could drink it. He heated it up in short-intervals as he had done with our baby, and there were no unusual smells or bubbles. When we drank it, of course, it tasted spoiled.

He immediately apologized, but I asked him to do it again the following day so I was sure that it was the microwave. He heated the same frozen breastmilk bag in the microwave, and again, it didn't taste good.

This has been keeping me up at night because I stay up thinking about my baby consuming spoiled milk. My husband could have caused our baby to get really sick. I don't understand how he didn't know that it was bad. It just doesn't make sense. I'm considering going back to formula because I still have a lot of frozen breastmilk.
