Why does being a Christian in the United States mean you have to be right-wing?

I’ve never understood why one religion could totally determine your politics. Like, all Christians have to be Republicans and vote for Trump and be conservative? You can’t be a Christian Democrat? What part of Christianity makes its followers automatically right-wing?
